Community

Reverence

In American society many of us have adopted an

individualist mindset, encouraging us to be

self sufficient, and too proud to engage with

others intimately.

After abrupt life changes, I made a goal to be more

community focused. I realized that people are really

what makes life interesting, when their humanity is

given room to breathe. Making genuine

connections in safe and sacred spaces brought

inspiration like none other.

My community saw things in me that I was unable to see

in myself. The people on these walls have made space

for me for me to heal, and been wonderful examples

of all the different aspects of black life. Even just those

that sat for a portrait, have allowed my art to blossom.

This collection of portraits is was on view at Current

gallery on w 78th Street in Cleveland Ohio from October 8th 2021 - October 30th 2021.
